Brown Reading Packet (Due Every Friday)
The brown reading envelope contains a book that is to be read daily either by you to your child or by your child to you. The title of the book is written on the outside of the brown envelope by me. The envelope goes home on Monday, stays at home all week for daily reading, and is returned on Friday. First packet is due September 4, 2015.
Also inside the zip lock schoolbag is their writing journal which is to be used for drawing their favorite part of any story read to them during the week (not necessarily the one in the brown envelope) with a sentence or two about their picture or a retelling of their favorite part. Children are to use only this page for the week's picture and sentence. Please write the Title of the book at the top of the page and underline title. Then Pictures are to be colored nicely; please encourage details and filling the whole page, not just small drawings. Drawings should be drawn by the child only, and sentences written as much as possible by them as well. Encourage them to sound out the words and use their 'kid writing'. If necessary, adult writing can go underneath the child's in the blank spaces. Please NO PEN, and I ask that you monitor your child's handwriting reminding them to have their letters touch the lines and to begin sentences with a capital letter and end them with a period.
When finished, please sign and date the outside of the brown envelope on the same line as that week's book title signifying that you and your child have read the book contained inside the brown reading envelope and that their journal is completed. Please note that the lines on the outside of the brown reading envelope are only for the books that I will be putting inside the brown reading envelope. Place the Brown Reading envelope with book and the writing journal in the ziplock bag on Fridays. We will be sharing our Returned picture and sentences on Friday with the rest of the class. Please make sure your child only uses one page for the curent week so that we have enough pages for the whole year.
If you have any questions or feel that the book sent home is either too easy or too hard, feel free to email me at [email protected] or send in a note.
